Getting Ready

Writer: Jean DavisJean Davis

Updated: Apr 26, 2018

I need to walk out the door in an hour or so, and in the meantime, I need to get ready. Oh, God, please put a guard over my mouth. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable unto You, my Rock and my Redeemer. Don’t let me speak out of turn. Free me of opinions, careless words, ungodly attitudes. I don’t want to be offensive unless someone needs to be offended, then help me not hold back. Make me bold, yet gentle; trusting, not fearful; truth-telling, yet kind. Don’t let me get my panties in a wad or cause anyone else’s knickers to get bunched up, either. May my words be gracious. May I not react. Let me rise above the flesh and the need to be right. Help me love others the way You love me―unconditionally, completely. Amen

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29, NIV)
